Arachne

Class: Arachnid/Human

Nature: They have much more human-like nature, but when they are aggressive, they can be very dangerous.

Affinity: Night

Locale: They are found in colonies across the universe, though their native origin home is Earth, and they are the most common there.

Abilities: Some are capable of using magical arts, such as Arachnomancy, and are known to communicate with spiders. They are also able to use and spin webs that are many, many times stronger then steel, and some species (depending on the spider) possess poisonous fangs.

Food: All Driders are vampiric by nature and eat by draining blood from living organisms. They are known to do this with all kinds of things, though they prefer insects and animals.

History/Origin

The first Arachne was not a natural born race, but were made by an ancient curse by the gods of old in the region of Greece. It is said that the first Arachne was a human lady who was of great pride who set herself and her skills against the gods, though many Arachne say this is not the case and that the Greek gods were corrupt and that she exposed their corruption before the world which threatened the belief in and the political power of these gods, so she was challenged by the Goddess of Wisdom and cursed after she lost, even though, Arachne say, her skills were clearly superior. This resulted in that woman being turned into a monster-an Arachne. The old gods of Greece were also notorious unkind to human beings that they cursed in this manner (as is the case with many people they cursed to become monsters, such as Medusa) and human beings were turned against the first Arachne by their lies of them being malevolent and evil creatures, which resulted in many Arachne throughout history not wishing much to do with human beings, except in the rare instances where humans opened their hearts to them. It has been the thought of many human beings that Arachne are dark malevolent beings, so many Arachne on Earth wish to have as little to do with human beings as possible, especially since many extermination campaigns were done against them in the name of religion, especially under Greek, Roman, and Christian belief.

However, many Driders are actually highly intelligent and very skillful, and they cannot stand the corruption, deceit, and malice of those who profess themselves to be 'gods' who proclaim divine right to act however they please to whoever they want, so Arachne are sometimes seen as tricksters who fool corrupt 'gods' and expose their corruption before the world while doing good things for man and themselves, especially in areas where older, more primitive religions as opposed to more European ones exist, such as in the Old World of America in Native American tales, and in Africa.

Arachne webs, especially in modern times, are highly sought after for their strength and durability, and have been made into both prized silken sheets and as lining to modern police battle armor, since it's one of the few materials that, while it is still does degrade over time, it is strong enough to stop bullets, even from high-powered rifles that are capable of piercing lighter armor. Their webs are thicker and stronger then normal spider webs, and are so strong, that they are next to impossible to cut or pierce, and it is difficult to escape once something or someone gets caught in it.

Despite their somewhat spider-like nature and the fact they are vampiric, that is, that they drink the blood of living organisms to survive, they are as rational and clever as human beings, and share the human sense of right and wrong that humans do, and it is only when threatened or in extreme cases, such as when an Arachne is dedicated to evil, that they kill human beings, though many human beings, especially on Earth, still fear them greatly, and human beings still, for the large part, see them as monsters and don't, in most of the world, give them equal rights to humans.

Arachne are also unique in the fact that some are capable of using a special magical art that is known as 'Arachnomancy'. This, for the most part, manifests in the ability to communicate on a telepathic level to spiders to act on their behalf, but highly trained Arachne can use highly forms of this art, such as commanding spiders to do complex tasks, using special weapons made of webbing, and using spider like magical arts that have anything to do with spiders, such as inflicting poison and using magical spiders.
I might of taken a few liberties with a few things...

Of well. Enjoy! :D

Huh, interesting!
I consider myself to treat spiders kindly and really are scared of them either! They're fascinating little creatures once you get past all the stigma that they're out to kill you!

Think they'd treat me nicely?
